The certificate will be authorized by Mason and signed by our provider, Sectigo. When available, Sectigo will email instructions for obtaining the certificate. It is the customer's responsibility to install the certificate and any supporting certificates. Generally, requests take up to 5 business days for a response.
Note: If the request is for a certificate outside of gmu.edu, there may be delays and additional work needed by the customer to validate the domain.
Certificate types
- Single domain: default.
- Multi-domain: a host or application answers to multiple names.
- Wildcard: for cases where a department has all of their systems under the same subdomain and chooses to protect them all with a single certificate. This must be a subdomain of gmu.edu.
Note: Certificates have a lifetime of 1 (one) year maximum and may be renewed, changed, or revoked. For documentation regarding the certificate service and Certificate Signing Request (CSR) see Sectigo Support & Knowledge Base.
