Canvas Open Catalog allows departments and offices to offer learning opportunities to users outside of the George Mason community. Typical use cases include facilitating training, non-credit courses, professional development, continuing education, and community outreach for users external to George Mason.

How We Can Help

Canvas Open Catalog features:

  • Offer courses in the familiar Canvas environment
  • Publicize offering via public storefront or send users private registration URL
  • End user self-registration
  • Option to collect payments directly (using the Mason Finance Gateway)
  • Offer a custom certificate of completion

Getting This Service

Faculty and staff should complete the Canvas Open Catalog interest form. Currently, Open Catalog is free for departments and offices setting up a training. In the future, there may be charge back fees to support this service. Fees would only be applied to new Open Catalog courses created in the future.

Depending on the expected level of usage, a department may be asked to designate someone as a Canvas Admin in order to be able to create new offerings on your own.

Training

Canvas training is available through the Canvas Training Services Portal for self-paced training resources or to register for live training and webinars. Additionally, live workshops are held periodically – sign up for these workshops on MasonLEAPS.

Availability

Canvas Open Catalog is available 24/7. Any outages will be announced on the Alerts & Bulletins page.
